On June 20, 2004 Ironbound Ambulance Squad did a
motorcycle run for a little girl named Sofia to raise money for
a new walker that she needed. They raised $ 3,000 for her and
bought her a walker for school therapy
we would like to thank everybody that came to the run and to
those who donated for Sofia. That is how the idea for the EMS
ANGELS MC came up and became a reality to help people in
our community.

In August of 2006, Sofia’s father came to the Ironbound
Ambulance Squad to ask for our help. He met with Manny
Oliveira who is the President of the Ironbound Ambulance
Squad to explain his situation. Sofia is a little girl from
Newark that has to go through life without being able to walk.
Sofia’s father explained to Manny, that his daughter was
unable to walk and that he and his wife could not afford to buy
Sofia a new wheelchair. On September 7, 2006, Manny came
up with an idea on how the Ironbound Ambulance Squad
could help out Sofia. Manny then presented the idea to Sofia’
s father that Ironbound Ambulance Squad Members would get
together and have a coin toss. Our goal was to raise One
Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars ($1,800.00) for the new
wheelchair. On September 9, 2006, Manny and the Ironbound
Ambulance Squad Members made it possible. We got
together for the coin toss and not only did we raise money
beyond our goal, we had a great time. After the coin toss, we
came back to the Ironbound Ambulance Squad to count the
donations we collected. Our grand total was Two Thousand
Three Hundred Dollars ($2,300.00). We were able to buy Sofia’
s new wheelchair and the extra Five Hundred Dollars
($500.00) was donated to the Ironbound Ambulance Squad.
This donation was made for all the hard work the volunteers
perform.
We would like to take this time to THANK everyone who
donated that day.
We also helped out on the Johnothan run. Ironbound
Ambulance Squad was escorting the run for Johnathan

On May 5, 2007
Manny, EMS ANGELS MC and Ironbound Ambulace Squad members got
together to start a coin toss for one of the members of Ironbound Ambulance
Squad. Rodney Rodriguez had lost 2 of his cousins in a fire on 4/19/07.
Omar & Elijah Sanes a 7 yr old and a 3 yr old lost their lives when their home
in Hazleton PA caught on fire. It was a tremendous loss for his family. We all
got together on Saturday, May 5, 2007 for a coin toss to collect money for his
family. The coin toss ran from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We decided were going to
stay their all day until we collected our goal of $ 2,000. At the end of the day,
we collected over $3,550 which was better then we had expected.
We would like to thank the community and the Ironbound Ambulance Squad
members who donated their time to make this possible. We would also like to
thank the EMS ANGELS MC for their help and the people who donated.
We would like to thank everybody in advance who is willing to help the Sanes
family. If you would like to make a donation to the family, please click on the

This letter is regarding a very special girl named Danielle Marie Galvin. She is the only child of
James & Margo Galvin. Danielle was born on March 18th, 2003 and has recently suffered a
very tragic illness. On April 4th, 2007 Danielle was admitted into Staten Island University
Hospital in Staten Island, N.Y. with an ear infection. After a battery of tests including several
MRI, CAT Scan and Spinal Taps it was diagnosed that she had Bacterial Meningitis along with
massive swelling in the brain and ears. Later that night our family and close friends were told
by the Medical Staff that Danielle would more than likely not survive the night, but if she did
she would have extensive hearing loss and possibly some brain damage. On April 5th, 2007
Danielle was placed on a Respirator along with a Feeding Tube along with a Female Broviac
Line, which sent from the right side of her stomach to the vein in her leg. She was kept under
very heavy sedation so that all of the medication that they were giving her could work and
would let her body rest to fight the bacteria without having any other distractions. The
medication she was on was very new and expensive drug that was administered through the
Female Broviac Line. The medicines and antibiotics could have some serious side effects.
The situation was very long and upsetting time for the entire family to sit, wait and pray the this
4 year old little girl who has her whole life ahead of her fighting for every breath. On April 10th
the doctors finally decided that it was time to take her off of the respirator. After a few hours
Danielle finally started coming to and the first people that were there were her Mom & Dad.
She gradually became stronger over time; at this time they started feeding her liquid food
through the feeding tube to find out what and how much her body could tolerate. It all seemed
to be looking up and we really had a lot of hope, we just knew it was going to be a long road
ahead of her.
Love you danielle,
Aunt Gail

Here we come to our Third Fundraise Trip after raising $30 thousand dollars so far. This is a
good number, but less than we have expected to have in the first two trips. Therefore, Rodrigo
Portugues and Camila Ferrari decided to do something different on their 3rd Fundraise Trip in
order to get the right amount of money we need to support our volunteer work in Africa.
Right after the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course held at the Ironbound Ambulance
Squad, Inc., in Newark-NJ, on the 22nd of September, Rodrigo and Camila got together with
José Rosario, instructor of the American Heart Association, and Manny Oliveira, President of
the EMS Angels MC Newark-NJ, to brainstorm other ways of fundraising. Even though we did
not succeed financially speaking with the CPR course, we do know that initiatives like this
help to mobilize people into and towards our cause and bring development to one of the most
vulnerable places on Earth. Besides, we also offer a small contribution to the ironbound local
community in Newark-NJ by qualifying its residents to live better throughout education. This is
the key to success! According to that, Jose Rosario offered himself, his time and knowledge to
help us again, but this time he would teach babysitting including first aid and CPR for infants
and kids of all ages. Following that, we decided the date, number of classes, how many people
in each class, hours, etc and then we went through the most complex part of this action:
promotion, get people to come and registration.
Basically, Rodrigo and Camila started on planning the event 1 month in advance hoping to not
only meet but exceed the number of participants and specially their expectations about the
course. However, we did not do that alone, some friends assisted us to make it better this time.
As usual, newspapers such as the Brazilian Voice and Brazilian Press, both from Newark,
were an important and totally free of charge promotion tool since the beginning. Besides that,
the Brazilian volunteers spent two weeks in Newark going from business to business to put
some posters on to reach more and more people.
Finally, after all this work the day eventually came and we were all prepared for that. In total, 39
people showed up for the first and second classes. Unfortunately, the third one had to be
cancelled in the last minute due to a personal issue with the instructor. Nothing serious, but he
would not be able to make it on time, so we decided to not have that class. Although, these 39
participants/friends raised all together $2593 to Rodrigo and Camila’s HIV/Aids projects in
Africa. In addition, all the participants are now certified babysitters by the State of New Jersey.
After each class, everybody got together for the group pictures and to rough prizes. There
were EMS Angels T-shirts and cups; clothes, gift cards from beauty saloons, convenience
stores and restaurants; and DVD’s about the work that is being done in Africa by our
organization. That was for sure a great time and for this reason we would like to thank every
single person and company involved on this very important initiative.
Adding together $2535 plus $977 from street and business fundraise we ended up our 3rd
fundraise trip with $3512 to our total goal. This is awesome!
Thanks not only for participating on this activity, but mostly for your support and trust on us!
Keep supporting if you can, because there will be always a good reason for that!
